The continuing professional development program (CPD) for the building and construction industry, which came into effect on 1 March 2004, introduced new requirements for holders of building and trade licence's and nominated qualified supervisors to undertake continuing professional development on an ongoing basis. The qualified supervisors are restricted to those who hold a current supervisor certificate that is nominated and linked to a contractor licence.

The CPD scheme, whilst mandatory for all contractors and nominated supervisors linked to a current licence, will be administered by way of self certification at the time of renewal.

Under the scheme, participants will be required to accumulate 100 CPD points each three years. At renewal, licence and certificate holders will be asked to certify that they have achieved the required points. Licence and certificate holders will be required to earn a minimum of 25 points per year.
